Mrs. Krauza's Algebra I Class
Welcome to Common Core Algebra I!
Algebra is a full year course that all students entering high school are required to take and pass. In addition to passing the class, students also need to pass the Common Core Algebra I Regents exam at the end of the year in order to meet requirements for obtaining a high school diploma. This is a prioritized curriculum classroom, meaning that we will be covering approximately 75% of the Common Core Algebra I curriculum, allowing us to move at a more comfortable pace throughout the year. We will be covering a wide range of topics this year including linear expressions, equations, and inequalities, functions, systems of equations and inequalities, exponents, polynomials, quadratic functions, & statistics.
Classroom Expectations
1. Respect EVERYONE: yourself, your classmates, your teacher.
2. Always try the problem. Always!
3. Learn from your mistakes by correcting them.
4. Ask for help when you need it.
5. Embrace each other’s differences.
Grading Policy
Classwork/Participation/Homework 40%
You are expected to fully engage during every class. This means completing DINs and TODs, following along during guided practice, and putting forth your best effort during independent practice. You will be provided with your own personal binder (to be kept in the classroom) and are expected to keep the binder organized and up-to-date with class assignments. The majority of your classwork grade will come from bi-weekly binder checks, where you will be graded on your DIN/TOD completion and classwork completion.
Tests 40%
Tests will be given at the end of each unit. These tests will be cumulative in nature and will contain both multiple choice and short answer questions. We will prepare for these tests together in class, but you are also expected to prepare outside of class.
Quizzes 20%
Quizzes will be given periodically between tests to gauge student progress. The purpose of quizzes is to address any gaps in understanding before the unit test. Quizzes will always be announced to allow you to prepare ahead of time and do your best.
Extra Help
If you are having trouble with a particular skill or concept, please speak with me as soon as possible. I will work with you to schedule time for extra help. Extra help is available before and after school, as well as any mutual free periods.
